Indelibly Rajesthan Part 7 Galtar Monkey Sanctuary ( First posted on thebarefootfoodie.org on 2 Nov 2014 )
Leaving for Jaipur, en-route, we stopped over at Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh, a delightful garden built for a princess with a lingering touch of romance and Galtar Monkey Sanctuary with nothing romantic about it.
At the gate to the Sanctuary, our driver introduced us to the monkey keeper whose name we did not catch, and told us that he would bring us around. We bought some peanuts to feed the monkeys and were off. The complex was much larger than what met the eye from the outside. It is actually a temple for those who care about paying more respect to the monkeys. Birds were one thing, but monkeys upped the ante for yet another “overcome your eeks factor” challenge. Strangely, the keeper had a certain aura of authority about him, that both G and I took his cues when he told us to feed the monkeys, let them get close enough to invade personal space, while he snapped the photos for us. He did seem to have a way with them, as well as with the cameral lens, as is evident from the shots he took. I am surprised that I’d allowed myself to get so close to…those creatures which can hardly be called cute. Some spell he cast!
